After reading "I Have a Dream" write down your thoughts as to what makes this speech to memorable and great. Feel free to compare this speech to the "Plymouth Rock" speech by Malcolm X. Be specific and challenge yourself!

Hello all, The speech, “I Have a Dream” by Martin Luther King Jr. Who played a dear amount of part at the freedom and equality of blacks said these words with meanings. Probably the strongest meanings in the whole mankind and might be the most famous ones. “I HAVE A DREAM.” It is such a slogan that it contains rebellion and settlement, problems and solutions, faith, hope, determination, stubbornness, forgiving, pride, humanity... There is a bit of all in these words... There is a goal, a goal in the horizon. A clear, simple goal, that is shared with everyone, not negotiable, even though it ask for gigantic sacrifices a one that promises the future. Whenever I read this sentence, all I can think of is the good aspects of humanity, sometimes these words appear in a song, you want to listen to it while you are dying, Sometimes it appears in a speech, that we understand the value years and years later, and sometimes it just crosses your mind and you don’t believe in it but it does... Martin Luther King Jr. on the other hand, said that he had a dream, a dream that will restore our humanity, and he believed in it, and even though the discrimation against blacks still continue nowadays, he accomplished most of it. If blacks and whites can sit next to each other today, if the president of the World most powerful country is black, then there is no doubt to say that his dream, wish came true. He made the dream come true that almost everyone thought was impossible. The ones who had the most impact to the world, are the ones who had the biggest dreams.
“Every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of the lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together.”
It not even debatable to say that we should all dream in order to reach our goals. Malcolm X did, Gandhi did, Nelson Mandela did, Aung Sang Suu Kyi does, Martin Luther King Jr. did...
The speech given by Martin Luther King, Jr. was a dream about the future. There was hope in this speech. He accepted the difficulties and injustice they were facing but different from Malcolm X, his speech was about the future, not the past. It was more optimistic. Malcolm X sounded angry and aggressive where as Martin Luther King, Jr. was calm, not aggressive. We can question if his dream has come true today. My opinion is they got rights on paper but we can still see that black people are shot dead by the police in the middle of the street in America. On the other hand, in 1960’s, it wasn’t possible to be the president of the United States for someone who was black. Their rights have been improved legally but in people’s minds racism against black people still exists. Marin Luther King’s speech was impressive and phenomenal. Because of the speech, he gave people hope. Today, this speech still gives me hope because I know that he was not the only person who thought like this. I know there are people who still think like this. Hopefully, someday everyone will be treated equally and live in peace. In 21st century, we still hope that someday, Martin Luther King’s dream comes true.
The speech of Martin Luther King is the most powerful speech I’ve ever listened. It’s a political text which emphasizes brotherhood and equality of black and white people. However, it seemed to me as a literary text rather than a political text., and I think that’s why this text is so impactful. The literary sentences and the powerful metaphores make this speech memorable and great. “Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred.” Martin Luther King is conveying very humanistic and universal values. Compared to Malcolm X, Luther King is trying to integrate people based on the equity and the brotherhood. Malcolm X believes in the philosophy of black nationalism. He thinks that the black people will overcome through nationalism. In a society, nationalism divides people. The conflict is, if you talk about the black nationalism, some other people will talk about the white nationalism. This is kind of a racist philosophy. These speeches were made in 1963 and 1964; both are reflecting black leaders’s perspectives. However, they’re contradictory. According to me, Luther King’s philosophy is more constructive and humanistic.
The speech of “I Have a Dream” is about American Africans. Malcolm X’s speech was more aggressive since he did his speech to the black people. But Martin Luther King Jr. made his speech to the America, not only blacks. He should be more objective. Malcolm X talks about the past more than Martin Luther King Jr. Malcolm X does not give any place to the white people in his speech. But Martin Luther King Jr. says black girls and boys, white girls and boys should be sisters and brothers. He is more optimistic than Malcolm X. In his speech, Malcolm X only gives place to his people. Both repeat some of the words to take attention. These speeches are memorable because they take the wound of America. The conflict between whites and blacks started when Americans brought Africans to America as slaves. This conflict still continues. Black people works at lower jobs. There are not any white cleaners. This conflict was between blacks and whites but today it’s between blacks and the police. The police do not tolerate the blacks. America still have dream to be equal and independent.
So after these two speeches I watched, i realized that both of them seek for the same cause but in a different approach. First let's start with Malcom X, he is much more direct and fearless compared to Martin Luther King Jr. In his speech he used slang words for his audience to understand. However it is not the same case with Martin Luther King, he is in the Capital of United States, where he should be proving himself as educated as the whites. Therefore he did his talk with the tones of peace, unity and singing songs. He was also repeating the phrase "I have a dream" just with that you can see he is refering to the future not the present. Malcom X was all about fighting to get rights now. Which I think is more effective and threathing to the goverment. Martin Luther King Jr. thinks that he should aim for the future and he clearly states it. His plan is preparing the people of the US for the future, so that when the goverment supports equality, they will to. Malcom X is the opposite, he is trying to overule the goverment and get what they deserve by force, which is not really liked by the white community. In conclusion I will always choose the speech of Malcom X over Martin Luther King Junior's, because of the reasons I have explained.
Hello dear friends and Mr.Farley, The speech "I Have A Dream" was given by Martin Luther King Jr.I think it is a really motivational speech.His word choises are really affective like he talks about freedom and beeing free and he repeats them to make them more affective so that it can stay in the people's memory.When he uses the pharase "I have a dream that" it gives hope to American African people.His tone is more calm compared to Malcom X.Malcom X's speech were more aggresive and it has slang words in it so that it can motivate people more of course both of the speeches were absolutely great but ı think Malcom X's speech was a bit more motivational
The speech “I Have a Dream” made by Martin Luther King Jr. is about black people, seeking justice and equality. It’s such an inspirational speech that even the white people listen to him and justify. The words that he chose specifically makes the speech influential and powerful. That being said, we can compare this speech with the speech of Malcolm X, “Plymouth Rock” which has been delivered pretty much in the same era with “ I Have a Dream”. The messages behind them are coinciding but the way they picked their words and give the speech is different. Martin Luther King Jr.’s speech was more like black people being together with white people and having equal conditions. And he also pointed out that they needed to do something for their children’s and grandchildren’s sake. Malcolm X was a bit more sharp and his desire was more specified. He wanted to do something right at that time. Not for their children, for themselves. He was way more serious though. He threatened the people who are in charge. Both speeches have their own characteristics and both are fascinating. It’s important to change the tone according to the audience.

Goodnight everyone, When I first listened to Martin Luther King Jr.‘s speech “I have a dream” all I could think about was how passionate and confidante he was. During the whole speech he kept repeating himself trying to reach out to the audience. Also as the opposite of Malcom X his dreams were more towards the future, about our kids and the generations after them. Malcom X on the other hand talks more about the present day and to be honest has more realistic dreams that Martin Luther King because he is focused at the present not the future. Also their tones are very different. Malcom X has a more aggressive tone than Martin Luther King. This is also because the audience was diferent. Martin Luther King had to be more careful about the words he used and his tone but Malcom X’s speech was more informal and sincere because his audience was already supporting him.

They both refer to the idea of "togetherness" really well. Martin Luther King refer to whites as "our white brothers", which shows a great effort to get blacks and whites together. "Now is the time to make justice a reality for all of God's children." Martin Luther King uses people's religion in order to give the idea of justice, equality, and togetherness to the audience.
On the other hand, of course, there are some differences between these great speakers. While Malcom X is really aggressive, Martin Luther King is not, but still, he is passionate. Because Martin Luther King speaks to both blacks and whites, he uses more formal and educated language, which shows white people that blacks are also can be educated really well. The most important difference is the reference to the idea of taking action, which puts Malcom X a little bit forward. Even tough the phrases "I have a dream" and "One day" from Martin Luther King is inside everybody's mind, these phrases doesn't lead to an action. On the other hand, Malcom X uses the word "today" to take an action, which leads the action from the blacks and the government come earlier. Another difference is the humor that Malcom X uses. He uses the idea of "humor" so effective that even though it really is a serious speech, he makes the audience laugh many times.
Anyway, these two great speakers had an important role in the history of equality and the freedom of blacks. Even though there are important differences between them, I don't think that saying one of them is better than the other is right.
