This picture is a representation of class division in Ancient Egypt. Today, we believe that society should be more egalitarian (equal for all people), but that has not been the case throughout human history.
This week, I want you to think about hierarchy in our society and in our world. Please find a news article and discuss how it is connected to hierarchy. Please find articles that are not so obvious - don't just search 'Hierarchy' and use an article. Because we believe that society should be more egalitarian, the way that hierarchy and power present themselves are much more subtle.
Please remember that the due date is Tuesday, October 18th at midnight.

According to The Guardian News, women in the UK earn 18% less than men. Also, as women have children and become older they start to earn even less. Article also indicates that men business managers are more likely to become a CEO during their careers compared to women business managers. Gender pay gap is not only UK’s problem but our world’s problem in common. Today, there are many lands from Europe to Asia facing the same issue. Throughout the years, women were controlled by men. They didn’t have right to vote until the beginning of the 20th century, they couldn’t get the same education as men, instead; they were expected to do the domestic work, take care of children. Women were even seen as objects only to satisfy men’s sexual desires, so that women were sold as sex slaves. They were priced by money, which is extremely humiliating. Even though today conditions are not that bad and we are “civilized”, technologically developed and etc., mostly women are still being controlled by men. Most significant roles in big companies are given to men. Most of the surgeons are chosen from men. It’s more common to see men being boss and women being secretary. Even in many movies, women characters are working for men. It is another hierarchy triangle. Men are at the top. They are given more opportunities in life. In the past, men were ruling the empires and today mostly men become president and prime minister. Which means women are still underestimated, insignificant and expected to cook, do the dishes and laundry. However, there should be equality instead of hierarchy. In order to get rid of this triangle and division, people need to be educated about gender equality and women should be encouraged more to become candidates at elections. World needs to see that women are also capable of doing “men’s jobs” like ruling a family, running a business, and governing a country. This hierarchy hasn’t changed in many years, still women are at the bottom and now it’s time to change.

According to a Los Angeles Times the people of North Korea do $975 million worth each year and this money isn’t paid by the government. “Sweatshop, North Korea” title report estimates that 400 thousand people are in the lowest class of forced laborer which are called as dolgyeokdae. These workers are chosen by local governments and are worked on construction sites for nearly no amount of money. A former dolgyeokdae worker tells that they were paid only $1 per month which is barely enough to buy two pieces of candy. Also these people are threatened to being sent to prison if they don’t comply. The attitude North Korea has towards laborers is very unfair and it must be changed because the laborers don’t get the payment of their effort. 400 thousand people of laborers do all the work but from the government’s point of view, their work is underestimated and not seen as a ‘work’. Getting only 120 North Korean won paid per month ($1) is not understandable. Just because they don’t have a socioeconomic power of a normal group of people, there is a group of laborers which are crushed. Laborers shape the base of a hierarchy pyramid. The base keeps the upper parts of the pyramid alive with their work and the way they are treated is against human rights. They need to feed their family, shelter them and keep them healthy just like normal humans. But with $1 per month it seems impossible. As a result, everybody among society should be treated equally because we are all humans and we are all equal.

People got accustomed to a leader that manages the whole business; containing working inferior employees beneath. According to Forbes, a different management structure is being embraced by companies: Holacracy. The aim of the system is to encourage collaboration and respect throughout the employees, by avoiding any superiority or inferiority throughout the office to create a productive workplace. The article is very biased that hierarchy in the workplace is necessary and more suitable for a work environment. Despite this, a bare fact occurs; both hierarchy and holacracy have benefits and damages. Hierarchy can be simpler to apply since a leader is the main factor in making decisions, and organizing; but hierarchy can also be very stressful for some employees to work if conflicts occur or employees feel overwhelmed with the competitive environment surrounding the workplace. Whereas a workplace with holacracy might seem as a more peaceful and respected environment. However the damages happen to be certainly inevitable; a less motivating workplace for many (due to no ambition), no career path with any future, or any growth factors. I believe that there should a system where both hierarchy and holacracy unite, where people (employees) can be respected and cared about, and where a leader without any selfish and self-promoting character, can be in charge of management and a system in order, to avoid any unnecessary confusions.

According to Independent social class is still very effective in child's success in school. Children with lower class have difficulties in school. Of course this is not a new thing current situation going on like this since II. World War maybe even before that. It is not just about money of course. Also it is not about individual teachers. It is about what of thinking and doing the job properly. According to Graham Holley, the chief executive of the Training and Development Agency, " The Performance of a school and a child in it is highly linked to social class. He also stated that "as many as three in every 10 secondary schools were 'arguably still performing unsatisfactorily.'" Of course It is really hard to change this. Children that have higher social status in hierarchical order undergo much better education. For a teacher it is very difficult to face and experience this. Until they gain some experience and professional development they won't understand. And Mr. Holley's aim is to educate teachers and destroy this wrong system.

People think that hierarchy discriminates people according to their power in their community. We all support that society should be more egalitarian. But what would happen if I say hierarchy is a system to order our lifestyle? In the past, people or leaders from important families were at the top of the hierarchy pyramid, and the poor people were at the bottom as slaves; However, with the hierarchy system today, people are working with titles like manager, boss, assistant, ect. So everyone knows their duties and they get paid depending on their job. According to The Atlantic magazine, an online shoe retailer Zappos’s CEO, started promoting a management structure called holacracy, which is a system of organizational governance where authority and descision-making are distributed to teams or group of people. Unfortunately the new system caused a chaos, because no one knew how to get things done anymore and slowly left their job. It was not a surprise actually. With holacracy, there were no more titles and no more bosses. Workers in charge of payroll, had problem determining salaries after titles had been banished. We should remember that one person can’t be great at so many subjects. That’s why they choose one, and become professional at it. As everyone can see,i hierarchy isn’t always a bad thing. It helps society to get in order and increases life standarts of a country by supporting workers to do their best at their job. All in all, I believe that there should be classification in a community depending on people’s professionality. This way confusions can be prevented and the ideal life standarts can be achieved.

According to The Guardian News, we can understand that head of a country can control small countries. We can see this from the text, because it says that “Can a millennial mayor save one of the world’s most violent cities?” From this we can understand that, the head of a country always controls the country. But sometimes, hierarchy can be a good stuff. Because as we can see from the article, because of the hierarchy in that country, they can control the crimes.

According to Los Angeles Times, one of Mexico's federal judges who was working on one of the highest profile criminal cases got shot down while jogging down the street in broad daylight. Among the suspects there was a boss in the so-called Jalisco New Generation cartel which leads the drug trafficking and an operative of Zetas gang.
This can be seen as a failure of hierarchy. The middle-upper class arranged the lower class in order to get rid of an upper class member, a federal judge. Which resulted in giving the cartel leaders and mobs(middle-upper class) more reputation and making them more dominant.

Article is about the coup that was unsuccessful at 15th of July. Soldiers did what was instructed them to do. They forcefully attempted coup. In that kind of situation, hierarchy is bad. But in the other hand, we need to organize things. Like in work CEO tells his assistants to do something and eventually everybody does what they must do. But in corrupted works, this may lead to bad things.

This article is about a group which brings down credit cards, like the master card and the card that we all want to have back; PayPal. These guys were described as the leaders of the hierarchy of the cards. They are not very known people but they are trying to change something with hacking or making something which will be talked.

As you all know there are a lot of muslim people living in the USA. What have i found from the article is that Trump values muslims a lot less more than the other citizens with other religions. We can see this as a pyramid, where muslims are at the bottom. Its really sad that still we have pyramids even in the 21th century. Someone said that history is set of lies lean on each other. I guess there always be a pyramid in every society, its so sad that USA which its said that land of freedom, doing o thing like that, there is an irony there. They are saying that there are no layers between people and classes and they are creating it.

Europe countries accept rich Syrians but they do not allow poor Syrians it is an example of hierarchy. When you have money you can able to do anything you want. In the worlds current system sadly rich people d what ever they want with their money. Poor people works harder and harder in order to gain money and bring food tho their children, wife and other family members. Ancient world has its own hierarchy and now it has too. In the future the future world will has its hierarchy. It goes on like this. In my example top part is Europe then rich Syrians and the bottom it poor and hard working workers (people).
