Farley's Friday Special blog....

Hello everyone, as you know I am in Barcelona for the weekend, and therefore you will have some special work to do for today. Please get onto any news sites listed on our blog page, and search for an event that has some ideological root that you can identify. It can be the ideology that you are studying, or another that you recognize. In your blog response, simply summarize the event and then briefly discuss how the ideology is present and relevant. This is due at the end of the day on Friday. Have fun!!!!

"Hurricane Matthew: At least 100 people killed in Haiti devastation" 10/7/2016
I've chosen this article because in my opinion this is a very big issiue. 100 people died today because of a hurricane in Haiti. We are not talking about a few people, 100 people is so much, just imagine 100 people in front of you and they are gone now. Of course there will be deaths, but this is so much. I think this much people died because their houses and building were not strong and well-built. Haiti is not a rich country and people are generally poor, in that case they cannot afford good building. As a result those buildings just break down during a natural disaster.

Data firm Palantir accused of systematically discriminating against Asian job applicants
Los Angeles Times

Palantir Technologies is a private company which makes high level data-analytics software for the U.S army. It is co-founded by Peter Thiel and is backing from an investment arm of CIA. Recently, it was reported that Palantir rejected job candidacy of Asian people. In recent years, other companies in Silicon Valley were also reported when they had a lack of diversity. For example Google, Apple and Facebook were reported that they employed low numbers of women. These events reminded me of two of the ideologies we learned. Sexism and racism. America is a country which has a diversity in nationality. So everyone should, at least, have a chance to work where they want. If a company doesn’t employ Asian people, it is unfair to these people. And if a company employs women very less than it employs men, this is unfair too.

"World's Oldest Man Celebrates His Bar Mitzvah 100 Years Late" -NPR

This article that was written by Richard Gonzales is about Yisrael Kristal who is a 113 year old man who waited to celebrate his Bar Mitzvah one century. It was WW2 when he was 13 years old, so he could not celebrate his Bar Mitzvah. Luckily, her survived the war as a prisoner in Auschwitz. After WW2, he went to Israel and built up a life. He celebrated his passage to adulthood this week with his two children, nine grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren in Israel. The story of Israel Kristal's life is a perfect example of optimistic life style. Surviving an Auschwitz camp isn't a very easy job and so does building up a new life after losing so much. It is only possible with thinking optimistic.

Clown problem in America became a big probelm for families and even adults. There are many people now has clown fear because of these problems. There are many people reports clowns as they see them. I think this is a critical problem cause children love clowns well most of them love clowns, this makes us understand that's why they choose clown as their personality. Many children were seen going into a forest with clowns. Well some of them got arrested however, this still isn't enough for families to relax and let their guards down. In my opinion for now people should not let their children go around and walk all alone. In my opinion it's fault of parents too they should educate their children about how to behave and how to get away when they see suspicious person and not to leave their sides because now it's clown problem it will turn to a santa problem in a few years and then halloween problem, people should now how to defend themselves and be more responsible about their behavior near their children. Ofcourse police should open their eyes and not just look they should see what's inside.

Racist Objects - A Painful Past Still Present by The Newyork Times

What’s to be gained from confronting the uncomfortable?

The video above is full of blatantly racist images and objects – old children’s books that infantilize African-Americans, vintage kitchenware that perpetuates white supremacy, T-shirts and bumper stickers that promote hate and violence. They are hard to look at. But we can’t ignore the horrors of our racist past, because they influence our present. The objects in the video can all be found at the Jim Crow Museum of Racist Memorabilia, where David Pilgrim, the museum's founder, uses them to help people contemplate the pervasiveness of racism. But there are many more out there, depicting African-Americans and other groups. This project makes me feel like differences are a huge problem in our life but it shouldn't because no matter what we are equal and most importantly we're all human.

Some Idelogies:
1. Racism
2. Superiorism
3. Individualism
4. Discrimination
5. Configuration

Girls spend 40% more time on chores than boys, UN report finds - BBC News

In my opinion this article is really pathetic because we live in a century that contains high level technology, feminism and power. So if even now girls are working more than men it is no good. The report also states that the percentage of the girls who work until they are 14-15 years old have increased by %20. The joy of childhood, freedom and not being able to work are their excuses to not to be worked but no one cares this. 'Girls sacrifice important opportunities to learn and grow' says the reporter which I strongly support. So to finish with, a world where girls work more than boys is not what I want nor what I educate myself for. This has to stop even when it is considered to be these people are just little kids.

Tampon tax protest
The article is about a feminist group's protest in Zurich. The protest is against to tampon taxes. They think that it's related with menstruation.
So, they have dyed 13 fountains blood red. They have dubbed #happytobleed. They are protesting against men's attitude to female body. That's sexism. Because there is a reaction towards womens.

Motorcycle Bomb Near Istanbul Police Station Wounds at Least 10- New York Times

There was a terrorist attack in İstanbul. According to the news a guy with a motorcycle come up to Yeni Bosna police station and abandoned the motorcycle with explosives on it. We can see that this attack didn't targeted the citizens they targeted the police. Still we don't know which terrorist group made this attack. I chose this article because it is an important event. Since the terrorism in Turkey got worser in the following year this got a lot of peoples attention. I think this is a bad thing for Turkey because we just recovered from the coup. However, we are lucky enough that this attack end with out giving any casualty.

Girls spend 40% more time performing unpaid household chores than boys, according to a new report from the UN children's agency. According to the BBC News UN reports found out that girls spend more time on chores compared to boys. Two out of three girls cook and clean in the home, and almost half of them collect water or firewood. In my opinion girls sacrifice very important opportunities such as learning, having fun and enjoying their childhood and life. By getting firewood and water some of the girls are assaulted and sexual violence is also increased. This is an perfect example for sexism and how it effects a persons life. All children/men/women should be equal and be able to do the same things, if some gender allowed to do a thing or forced to do a thing and other gender is not, we can call this disparity.

Robbie Williams accused of anti-Russia 'racism' on new single, Party Like A Russian

The article in www.BBC.com, I saw an article about Robbie Williams being racist and him never performing in Russia again. Russian media was calling Robbie Williams racist in the past few days. The reason in this situation is his new song called “Party Like a Russian” which he does fake accent while singing. The song contains; drink, drugs and Russian dolls and bravely rhymes Rasputin with Louboutin. He also sings about a man who "alleviates the cash from a whole entire nation" to "build my own space station". Robbie Williams denied that the song is about Putin with sharing a tweet. I think that this song is about the Russia and its politics.

“The Most Dangerous Countries to Travel to” HealthGrove (directed from The Guardian)

This is the most racist list I have ever seen. This list can be true because a lot of country is going through hard times but it’s very racist that making a list like that and saying “Don't Even Think about Visiting the Top 25 Dangerous Countries”. Turkey is number 22 and no one can say that don’t even think about visiting Turkey. Some cities can be dangerous but you don’t get killed in Turkey, that’s absurd. They included France because of terrorist attacks. Terrorist attacks happen in U.S too, polices kill innocent people. Afro-Americans are under threat in U.S because of racism. Why don’t they include U.S? To conclude this is the racist list I have ever seen!!

US News "Feminism at the GOP Convention"
As we know one of the biggest problem in the world is feminism. In US News writer Susannah Wellford write about Feminism. He is bringing woman empowerment organization to GOP because he takes a lot of hate mail in his inbox. Sixteen years ago, he helped create the Women Under Forty Political Action Committee (WUFPAC) to support young women from all parties running for Congress. He want to create something bigger. His aim is not to shape the political ideologies of these young women but he want to give that confidence to them so as he do we need to do something about women rights who can't protect their selfs.

"Quebec judge had no legal basis for asking woman to remove hijab, higher court says." Canadian News
In Quebec a judge wanted a woman to remove her hijab in order to have her case heard in court. Firstly, it is a high crime according to human right policy except this it is a very merciless and undeserved humiliation to a person who is in quest of justice. At the same time it is broadsiding, wanting a woman to remove her hijab in front of everyone. On the other hand, the purpose of being judge is protecting people' rights and respecting to everyone's moral values. In this article the biggest irony is a judge doing all the things against to these important rules. Lastly, I want to highlight how important to be fair to everyone in everyone area.

Women say going through breast cancer can have positives-The Irısh News

This article told us about a woman that diagnosed with breast cancer at just 31. At first, shortly bad thoughts came to her head. Lara Honnor's biggest fear was dying without being in love once. She knew that at that time she could not find what she wants. After that her thoughts changed optimistically: "But then I thought, 'Stop feeling sorry for yourself – you've got the most amazing friends and family and so much love there'." After a few years she survived the cancer and now she is with her husband. This was like a dream years back for Lara. So, the point is even if she is cancer, she could see the glass half full.

'Hey, baby' - the everyday sexism of American streets

The Hollaback site is pushing a campaign to end street harassment of women, put together a public service proclaimation based on video footage of a woman who walked the streets Manhattan streets for 10 hours. They recorded more than 100 come ons, from benevolent however unwelcome aproaches to the pressuring, including a guy who walked with her for five minutes, and another guy who tried to hound her into talking with him. In my opinion, male gender must not overture a female in a disturbing way with the fact that man house more physical power than the female. In other words, both gender's are at the same level, therefore there should not be supremacy over female gender.

Clown sightings: Australia police 'won't tolerate' antics:

After reports of clowns terrorising people in Melbourne, Australian police in Victoria have warned the public not to engage in "intimidating" behavior. It reported that some people in clown masks have chased others and tried to take children into woods.
People started to say “killer clowns” to these kind of clowns. They started to spread fear to people. I think it is sadism. People who are in pain pleasures these kind of clown masked people. One professional clown has started a #ClownLivesMatter movement, to remind the public that real clowns want to spread happiness, not fear.

Scale of sexual abuse in UK universities likened to Savile and Catholic scandals

100 women with gurdians from UK universitties shared that they got sexual harassment and gender violence by UK university staff has been likened to the scandals involving the Catholic church and Jimmy Savile. With this assembly I hope that women will have more rights and protection. It seems scary because even in a very developed country like England these bad things happen to women so it is an internetianel issue. My ideology was sexicm here and I think women and men are not equal in this situation.

On Friday I tried to find an article which should have related to my ideology but I couldn't find any so I decided to write about a motor show.

''The Paris Motor Show''
The article is a little bit old though but I like cars so I decide to choose it. The article gives information about concept cars of well-known car brands. The motor show took place in Paris Expo. I like the Brand new Renault Treznor concept car. It looks amazing. It looks like someone took it from a sci-fi movie. The article says that this car is undrivable in french roads because it is too wide. On the other hand car has 350 hp elecrtic powertrain engine. The car looks way better than The BMW Vision Next 100 concept cars. Trust me on that one.
