Welcome back to our media blog response routine for Unit 2. You know the routine by now, as we are continuing developing our Thinking Skills and further developing our Communication Skills. My news is ‘India rupee ban: Sporadic 'day of rage' protests against cash ban’ by BBC. İn Indıa Mr.Modi ban the use of cash by a description of taking measure for corruption in the country. People line up banks because they have to do exchange their old many. This event makes people worry about their economic situation and they make a day to express their anger. People protests Mr.Modi’s decision. Also, some important statements for Indıan government said it is illegal to ban the use of cash. I think this rule is not necessary for them, it just put people hard situation economically.
Poverty In Unexpected Places – Can Umut 10-D
When we think about poverty, the first places to come to mind are mostly places which don’t have a proper governing systems, lack industrialization or do not possess any kind of technology. This is not wrong, those countries are indeed poor however there are other countries facing poverty that are very technologically and industrially advanced. California is one of the most important vacation centers in the world, many people constantly travel to California to taste the luxurious lives of movie stars, but the thing that many people don’t realise is that California is the state that has the highest poverty rate in the United States. %20 of the state of California is considered to be poor, that is roughly 8 million people that do not have money to meet basic needs when everyone thinks that it’s the richest place in the states. The effects of media makes it so that we live in a delusion and fail to see the reality. The rates of poverty should be lowered before a country can be called advanced in any kind of way.

Around 23 per cent of children, around 101,000, were in poverty in 2013/14 compared to 20 per cent in the previous year. Which shows us that there is big economical issue in north. Because of that a new notion released the "child poverty crisis". The condemnation of many families and children to a life of poverty is the most selfish and insusceptible movement for a government. Thus, in my opinion every government should be aware of the highly negative economic issues occurs by the poverty.
Tanzania’s Conditional Cash Transfer Program Helps Reduce Extreme Poverty
A new World Bank evaluation showed us that a contidional cash transfer program has succesfully helped reduce extreme poverty, especially among female-headed households. By doing this cash transfer, it aims to increase food security among vulnerable groups. In my opinion this is a very good act to reduce poverty, specifically helping women whom are in need of money, because of they are trying to raise children. By doing this it has also constributed to the improvement of food and acces to health and education services.

“Too Poor To Stay Warm”
Poverty is one of the major problems going on in our world today. There are too many people, who can’t acces to water, food, or heat. As we all know, all of these are necessary for a human to live. To end this, sixteen years ago, the United Kingdom government promised to poor people a protection from the cold. The project was supposed to be finished in 2016, but it had passed the deadline now, and barely started. Lots of people still can’t afford heat and die from cold. The problem here simply is that the government can’t keep its promises. But it goes beyond that. What, to the government, is a simple promise, is poor people’s survival struggle. I think what goverment miss is this. They look at it as a promise they can cheat like a child. They don’t emphatize and should look at this not just like a promise, but as a life threatining situation. Maybe this way, they can keep their promises.

Money is essential for having a liveable life. And if you do not have enough money life would be unbearable in this capitalist system. According to the article there are stark differences between the poorest and the richest U.S states. The median household income in poorest state is $24K and in richest state is $89K. Prevalence of smoking twice as high in the poorest state as the richest state. Prevalence of obesity is 50% higher in the poorest state than the richest state. Life expectancy in the richest state is ten years higher than the poorest state both in woman and man. The study shows that in a capitalist country which is one of the richest countries poverty can make you live shorter, fat, addicted and many more that the study doesn’t show. I think capitalist system doesn’t work the numbers shows it; just they show it like it works with concepts like American Dream.

"A woman in China kills her four young children and herself. Did poverty push her to do it?"
The article I found is about a 28 year old woman named Yang who kills her four children with an ax and after that, commits suicide by drinking pesticide. The only reason behind that depressing story is the conditions they have in the life they were living. Pictures posted online show that her bed was a slab, her walls were covered with newspaper and the ceiling was broken so they were very poor even though they live in a village which has a population of 300. She spent her days working in the fields and at the end, she decides to kill her children and commit suicide because of the problem of poverty in our world. I think the article shows us how big and important this problem is because it can make people kill their family and themselves.

Poverty-stricken populations keep voting for Republicans. Why? – LA Times
According to the results of the election, poorest counties in the United States are solidly in red states. This outcome is really thought-provoking; do the Democrats fail communicating their message or the Republicans have a better strategy of attracting people? When it comes to propaganda, the Republicans are known for their behavior towards decreasing taxes for the revival of the economy. Correspondingly, the people with lower income tend to vote for the party that would help them the most economically.
However, over the past decades, almost all the gains in the growing economy went to the rich. Despite everything, in reality, it’s all about what ideologies the majority of the population internalize. The Republican platform is against abortion and gay marriage which are important issues for lower and middle class whites. In other words, the results on the election depends on the education level and the beliefs of the community.

Robredo: 3M Pinoy kids suffer ‘stunted growth’
Vice President Leni Robredo expressed concern about the afflicting Filipino children called “stunted growth.” The children who lives in Filipino have a issue about them height because of the health problems. Three million children have that condition. “While we were there, we visited a public school and observed that the children from grades 1 to 5 were almost the same size. The children were all suffering from a condition called stunting,” Robredo said in her speech at the 3rd Annual SEC-PSE Corporate Governance Forum.

When we imagine poverty, always lack of money comes to our minds, I believe that is not true. Sometimes a country can become poor because of losing their saviour as well. For example, go back to 1938, and remember the time when people of Turkey lost it's legendary leader. Later on, everything went wrong, and Turkey faced with numerous diffuculties such as downfall of economy and tourism, I would say it was the climax of Turkish history. Aside that, it was not only economics, but it was the deep grieve of losing a father which lead to a poverty in an abstract way. People were feared, feeling poor with envisioning their country going through a completely change. In this context, I would like to represent you Fidel Castro. When he arrived at Cuba on January 8 for the first time, Cuba was struggling poverty within the country. He promised to help many poor people and he succeed. Thus, there were many disagreed people with his opinion and thoughts. He learned to ignore them, and kept doing what he believed in. Eventually Cuba become more powerful in economics due to Fidel Castro’s contributions. Now on Cuba is poor, not meaning the money however meaning the loss of a great leader.

It is known that poverty is one of the biggest issue that world is facing today. I found an article about the facts of global poverty. It is an interesting article because the facts are very surprising. Most people and I think that HIV, cancer or that kind of killer diseases are the main cause of death in the world. However, I learned that according to The World Food Programme, “The poor are hungry and their hunger traps them in poverty. Hunger is the number one cause of death in the world, killing more than HIV/AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis combined.'' Another fact article mentioned and surprised me that Oxfam which is a confederation for reducing poverty, estimates that it would take $60 billion annually to end extreme global poverty--that's less than 1/4 the income of the top 100 richest billionaires. Isn't it very sad? People have the power to reduce poverty but they don't use it.
World Bank: Poverty Down, Definitely Not Out
It is an article about an economy reporter who is complaining high poverty ratio in the world. He tells economic and problems of poverty in the world. There is an interesting value he gives “ 1 in 10 people still live on less than 1.90 dolar per day.”. There are some quotes that he gives us to make his argument stronger. “… but still far too many people live with far too little,” World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim. There is a table that gives us information about select regions where poverty prevails. One of the highest percent of population that is poor comes from Sub-Saharan Africa with the ratio of 41. The examples he gave us are very terrifying and I hope that World Bank and United Union will find a solution for this important issue.

It is also important to know that poverty within the legal borders of a country can cause some troubles, not only the poor (material or money) part of the country, but everywhere will be ruined will trying to fix the poverty, which is why there are protests happening in Standing Rock, Dakota. A pipeline's purpose is to carry liquids or gasses through long distances. Carrying something through a pipeline is only needed when there is a lack of a liquid or gas in the area it's going to, such as oil. Pipelines are great for the people who receive the gas or the liquid, but what the poverty of this liquid or gas does to the place it's coming from is devastating. In Standing Rock people know how this might affect them and the place they live in and they've been protesting for months.

Hard at work but can't buy food
The article I read, is about poverty in America but, poverty doesn’t mean being jobless. There are two causes that effects poverty. One of them is can’t finding job and other one is find job which needs hardwork but payment is not enough. Article mostly about the second one. Employees can’t get along with their incomes. They’re work as hard as richs but sometimes they be starved. The situation causes poverty in country and then whole world. That unbalanced economy sometimes causes to war or suicide so the main idea is employees should get enough provisions according to their hard work. That could ensure peace. “Being poor doesn't mean being jobless, said a recent Challenger, Gray & Christmas report that found more and more working families are living at or below the poverty line.” as told in the subheading POOR DOESN’T MEAN BEİNG JOBLESS.

According to global news they made a test and in that test people change their lifestyles according to the money that they have. Most people would depressed because of the lifestyle and you may do types of decisions that are going to affect your family life, your health, childcare and of course, your financial wellbeing because of poverty. The United Way has set up an online tool that simulates the limited budget many Canadians struggle with to meet life’s basic needs for one month. If you are rich before of your life and now you are poor, you need to change everything in your life and try to survive.

In a Hasansham camp, which is a camp for Mosul people that suffuring, there were people suffers from hunger. Many people told that they sold everything they had to try to buy food. One family told that they had to give away the wife's wedding ring to get something to eat. BBC found two brother who came there and they were like made out of just bones and skin. Their mother insists they were healthy, but a month of no food and no help left them like that. People want and try to help these kind of people, but I think people are not making enough effort. Mosul is only the one example fort his, there are lots of people out there, struggling and tries to survive. I think weneed to make more effort to minimise the poverty in the world.

BBC- Spain anger over 'energy poverty' deaths
Spain’s economy is recovering but the recent death of an 81 years old woman in house fires reminds people of a hardship that millions of households still face in the country. Rosa, the woman that died, were using candles for light after her electricity was cut off. She died at the evening because she fall asleep with candle still burning and died from asphyxiation. Since the Spain’s economic crisis in 2008 average price of gas and electricity had increased a lot that 5 million people could not afford to heat their homes enough in the winter months. The government should thought about the possibilities like this and for example prepare alternative ways to provide electricity to the country.

The think that made me choose this article was the title’s itself, “Can poverty lead to mental illness?” it’s actually an unordinary type of question, I am not sure about poverty can be the cause of a mental illness, however I am pretty sure about poverty’s itself being a mental illness. This article mainly talks about Chinese mother killing her children and herself because of poverty (as we know).This article reminds me of an experiment, stylists made a cute little girl wear good and rich cloths and examine the reaction of the people when she approach them and the reaction of the people when she wear torn clothes, the reactions were completely the opposite and when many people yelled at her when she was wearing torn clothes little girl started crying and they had to stop the experiment. So I think even though she did the same thing in both clothes people reacted differently. Poverty’s itself is a mental illness for society and due to that many poor people have mental issues such as lack of confidence and thinking they are not good enough. Poverty is a huge problembut it’s not impossible to solve; firstly people needs to gain conscience rather than gaining more money that they don’t need.
ISIS soldier attacks people in OSU
ISIS does as much dirty work outside Turkey, Syria, and Iraq then they do inside. A student from the university itself, who's name is Abdul Artan, attacked a group of people with a buther knife in Ohio State university. According to me in order to understand why ISIS attacked OSU, people first need to understand what their main purpose is and where they come from. How were they formed? The answer lies within one simple word: Poverty. The Islamic State was born from the mistakes of Iraq, Syria, and Turkey. It assembled because the people that are in ISIS were not treated well in their previous countries. Their rights were simply damaged, and their money was given to the upper class of people who didn't usually make great use of the money. Instead, they most likely had spent it for their personal privilages. In my opinion, in order for these attacks to stop and prevent the next big war, people should start thinking about the effects of capitalism to eveyone in the country rather than just people like themselves.

Natural Disasters Force 26 Million People into Poverty and Cost $520 billion in Losses Every Year, New World Bank Analysis Finds - The World Bank
The article that I read was talking about consumption loss due to natural disasters were bigger that loss of assets caused by many disasters. World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim, said that many natural disasters had terrible economic outcomes which effect poor people more heavily than the others and the poor pay the highest price.
The article talks about a report and its methodology written by The World Bank. It uses a new method to measure the level of the damage that has done by the natural disasters including the unequal damage of natural disasters on poor.
In my opinion these two reports about natural disasters affecting economy, and poverty are helpful. The first one is helpful by letting people know about the natural disasters and making people realize the unequality between the poor and the others in order to the damage of natural disasters. And the second one can be useful by measuring the damage and helping people in order to that measurement.
BBC News-Brazil's Chapecoense football team in Colombia plane crash
On late hours yesterday night Brazil's national football team's plane has had an electrical malfunction so the plane crushed. The thing that is known by now is that the goal keeper and 2 other players rescued but are in deep shock. In my opinion the thing that people should question is that was it on purpose and if yes whom and why did they do it? A plane of the professionals club crashed and people thinking that it is a coincidence is not acceptable. Of course people can do mistakes, so can the machines but why didn't any of the planes crashed so far and this plane did? If it was on purpose why would someone want to kill so many people and be successful in it (75 people were found dead). People need to question this.

I read an article about a family with economic problems. The story doesn't have an happy ending. The man of the family, the father - the husband - fatally shot dead his son, daughter and wife, and finally hung himself. This article gave me the question, is the reason for all this, is poverty? Was the man in so bad condition, drowning in debts, sick of getting loans, so he decided just to end it all? One of the main issues in our world right now that we're facing is poverty. Many people all around the world, sadly don't have mandatory access to electricity, food, or water. The article stated that the man has been out of luck supporting himself and his family. Without the necessary needs, a human being cannot live life. To end it, I think that the government should give debts - another luck - for the people who are in the same path as this guy.

Brazilian football team took doomed flight after being denied charter request- RT
I am an aviation lover for nearly 8 years and love investigate plane crashes. While I was going to basketball match for representing my school I heard this catastrophic crash. Our theme is about poverty. People could think is this topic related to poverty. The answer is yes. Aircraft is a short haul Avro 146. When I checked the plane's flight path and distance it is near the limit of this plane. Flight lasted nearly 5 hours but unfortunately it was finished with catastrophic end. It looks like the club gave a desperate situation. Brazilian Flight Authority declined their charter flight request from Brazil. Chapecoense FC is playing final in a prestigious tournament and represent its country, but Brazilian government does not even prepare them a plane which takes them to the final destination (Medellin) The reason why they didn't rent a plane to them is they are poor. Also the team is poor that they could not rent plane for their final game. If they have enough money I am pretty sure that they will rent a plane from TAM (best airline in Brazil). They rented from a small airline called LaMia. According to procedures they first flew to Bolivia (home base of LaMia) then to final destination. (time waste) They only have 3 planes. I don't want to how do they care maintenance of the planes.
This part is really catastrophic. While they were approaching to final destination due to weather conditions they held (circling) in the air. After circling 2-3 times pilots declared an emergency because of electrical problems and after that radar contact was lost. Plane fell down from high altitude and it didn't burn, and they had electrical problems. Most likely it is because of fuel problem. They were out of fuel. This shows this plane's range is not enough for this long flight! LaMia closed its website after this crash.
Unfortunately only 5 people survived from this crash. A successful soccer team is wiped out. Soccer teams all around the world are ready for help them. I could continue writing but I guess I reached the limit. May God help victim's families and survivals.

"UK fuel poverty to last a lifetime, report says"
I read this article about Uk is going to run out of fuel since it is a cold and damp country. Research shows that a child that borned today may never see fuel. Uk government is trying to stop this poverty by making "fuel poor" homes to use less fuel to heat homes. I think this is a big problem since UK is one of the most developed country in the world. I think not only UK should reduce their fuel usage all of the world should since fuel isn't a renewable energy source and it is limited. I think we must use renewable energy source because we can use it without running out of it and also it isn't bad for environment.

Poverty is a problem that has a strong effect in our world as we know. It causes hunger, thirst and may need-based issues like these. It is a big problem for us because as we are aware humans can not live without these basic necessities which is water, food, heat…etc. Sixteen years before from today UK government estipulate to their country that they will afford the heat that they need and protect the poor people from cold. What they planned was to finish this project but the government have just started in 2016. Because the government can’ keep its promises so many people lost their life because of cold. I think governments fault is they don’t understand and take this problem serious. And they should know that this is a matter of life and death.

"School girls die in Turkey dormitory blaze after fire door 'wouldn't open'.
Yesterday 12 people died in Turkey, Adana. Eleven of them were school girls and one of them was the staff in there. They say that fire started because of electricity problem in the dormitory. Sadly the house was made of wood and carpets all over the place, which burns very quickly and easy. But the main reason that they died is, fire door didn't open and they didn't have enough safety procedures and equipments in the house. Probably because they don't have money to spend on fire safety. If they had a great fire exit and a fire safety procedure, probably no one would die in the accident.

For example, if a company raises minimum pay, its costs could rise and leave it vulnerable to competitors who pay less.

Yesterday i was looking an article called ‘Poverty is mass destruction’: 9 dead, 61 injured in Chicago over Thanksgiving Weekend'. As you can understand from the name there was a big chaos on Thanksgiving. In shortly poverty causes vollence, health problems, and disturbing the peace. And this week it caused 9 life and many harms in Chicago. Sadly, every year it increases. This year the number of homicides climbed to 728. In conclusion, poverty may cause many harms to people, and also to country. IT can make people do things that normally they wouldn\t think of it. So, it makes people desperate or give no choice like even taking a life...
In the USA, the California has the highest level of poverty. Everyone think California has rich people living. However this not true because 8 million people are suffering from poverty but the media does not show this things. Many people travel to this place to see how rich people are living, they are here to see richness, but the thing many people do not realize is that California is not a place like they think. Most of the people cannot even get the simple requirements of life. As I said media is not showng the real side. I think that even if a country this big and powerful has high poverty rates, we should be more careful about the poverty globally.
Poverty is a common but unsolved problem. It was found that in 2013, 10.7 percent of the world lived on less than 1.90 dolars a day that means 767 million people have to meet their needs with under 1.90 dolars. That is in no way enough. When they see a beggar on the street the first reaction people give is trying to get away from them. Beggars are usually seen as criminals, as dangerous people, however could that be an idea planted in our minds by society? Nowadays the way people look down on homeless people who beg is not humane. When you look at someone you can only make judgements about their appearance and their appearance is not necessarily who they are. To be able to make a judgement about a person being a criminal or a danger to you, you must know about their whole life. People who were and still are innocent end up in the street because of tragic events which may not even be their fault. It cannot be said that all homeless people are innocent but it is wrong to say that they are all addicted drug users, criminals or bad people. It is a hard decision to decide whether or not to give money to beggars. Some people think that not supporting these people will make them pursue a job or a better life but the rates of people without jobs is so high that they may be on the street because of the lack of jobs. Beggars and homeless people are humans just like we are, we all have the same rights, we all live in the same world, we breathe the same air. They deserve a better life.

Almost Half of Refugees in Chad Going Hungry After Aid Cuts, Poor Harvests-U.N. by Thomson REUTERS Foundation
In Chad more than 40 percent of the refuge families are going hungry after the food stock of them are cut by the Aid agency. Because of the cut their poor harvest couldn't support them with enough food. WFP’ deputy country director said that the refugees were under a reduced food ration for two years and they said their main concern was supporting them food. The chronic hunger in childhood made them shorter for their age and children under five years old are suffering from anaemia. After a few weeks WFP started again giving support to the poorest families with their food. In my opinion because they were poor the people in Chad couldn't gather any seeds nor supplies for their hunger.

This article which was written by Amina Khan is mainly about how people affect global warming and the amount of ice that is melting every year in Arctic sea. Research’s of scientist’s showed that an average person is melting about 50 meters of ice every year.If you think about it. That’s a lot. Some scientists say that all ice will melt before the new century. We talk about it once but we don’t ever really worry about these kind of problems. Don’t we want a good life for our children or grandchildren? This is a global issue. Not only America or Russia or Europe should worry about this. This is everyone’s probem. People has to stop avoiding these problems and start thinking about solutions together or there will be no good life for next generations.
Why is Italy seeing a record number of migrants?
This articles tries to explain why the imigrant crisis isn't over yet. The imigrant influx ceased but imigrant are still coming across Mediterranean.This year Italy has announced a new record of 171,000 migrants crossing the Mediterranean this year. The influx from Turkey ceased due to an agreement. But theese days numbers are beginning to rise again and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has threatened to let more migrants through if talks on EU membership are frozen. I am very curious about this situation. What will happen next god knows. I think we let all the imigrants come to our country in order to threathen everybody to release all the imigrants. That was our strategy. I hope this is a good answer for ''Why did Turkey let all the imigrants come?''
It is known that poverty is one of the biggest issue today. In the article that i read it talkes about poverty doesn't mean that people are jobless.Like many issues; poverty has 2 reason which causes poverty. As we all know basically; one of the reason is people being jobless. On the other hand, some people ,can't get enough money even they work so hard. Some of them are starving, some of them are homeless and some of them doesn't have enough money to buy clothes.As many countries America has this issue too. This causes differences ,wars ...etc. unbalanced economy effects all country. The main point of this article is that people can fight with hunger even they have a job. So having job doesn't mean that being rich.
