Alright Grade 10s! Are you ready to step it up a notch? It is time to some independent work and push yourselves a bit more than you were used to. Over the November break, you must post 2 blog responses to 2 different media sources by Sunday the 29th. Remember: this is not a simple summary of the news. It also involves language analysis, writers' effects, and writers' tone and attitude. You will have a few options from which to choose: articles, videos, interviews, etc. So make sure to vary it up by watching a video then reading an article, for example. OK, let's get going. This report attempts to analyze the reasons for which Turkey would jeopardize its relationship with Russia and shoot down a Russian warplane over Syria. Turkey claims that the Russian jet repeatedly violated its airspace, which is a claim Russia denies. Immediately, what comes to mind is the Turkish concern over the Turkmen population in Syria, which the Russian attacks seem to threaten. The Prime Minister of Turkey stated that Turkey would do anything to protect the Turkmen “bothers” living in Syria. What is bizarre is that Turkey would threaten its trade relations with Russia. Turkey is dependent on Russian natural gas. In addition, Russian tourists constitute the second largest group of tourists to Istanbul. Furthermore, major industries work in both Russia and Turkey. So why would Turkey risk this beneficial relationship? Perhaps we should did a bit deeper. As far as the Syrian war is concerned, Turkey has been very clear: Turkey wants Assad out. This position has isolated Turkey from the international community. Also, contrary to the claims made by the West, Russia is not attacking “moderate” groups in Syria but very dangerous groups such as Al-Nusra Front, which is the Syrian Al Qaida. All in all, this brief interview scratches the surface of the real reasons Turkey shot down the Russian jet, which is not discussed in main stream media. It is clear The Real News Network is not a mainstream media source because they are asking questions that normally are not asked by main stream media. Migrant Crisis: Turkey and EU seek deal to limit refugee flow

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davatoglu met with EU representatives in Brussels to discuss a deal in which Turkey will restrict the number of refugees that pass through Turkey to reach Europe. Turkey expects to receive money and political concessions in return for tightening its borders and keeping refugees in Turkey. The EU is offering Turkey 3 billion Euros over two years, but it is unclear what countries will be paying what. Ahmet Davatoglu hopes that this is a positive step toward improving relations with the EU. Turkey has applied to become a member of the EU but so far the application has not been accepted; many European states are wary of Turkey’s human rights record and authoritarian style of governing, something that the democratic countries of the West strongly oppose. Despite this, Turkey has the advantage in the deal because Turkey is in a position to determine how many refugees flow into Europe; Turkey can use this to leverage the deal and put forth more demands.

The United States President Barack Obama makes a climate warning in Paris Climate Change Conference.He had a climate warning to "Submerged countries, abandoned cities and fields that no longer grow".President Barack Obama has said the UN climate conference in Paris could be a "turning point" in global efforts to limit future temperature rises.So if every country show an effort on this in a required level this problem may be solved.In the conference the key issues were money,fairness and limits.I think that all countries should put a money fund and should try to decrease and maybe even stop this problem

Pope Francis: 'Christians and Muslims are brothers and sisters'

A visit to Africa by The Pope Francis. In his tour he visited a mosque and had a message to the Muslim or any other kind of believers, in the highlight of the recent fights between the minority Muslims and Christians. He said `Christians and Muslims are brothers and sisters, and we must act as such. Here, Pope Francis, is highly concerned about the diversity which the state has.Towns and villages are divided, with hundreds of thousands of people displaced into camps divided along religious lines. He said they should instead arm themselves "with justice, love, mercy and authentic peace". It is important that even him, as the representerer of the Christians around the world, because that millions take the word of what he says. However as much as he says we are brothers and sisters, along with him there were armed UN forces which took tight security measures. He was also very welcomed to the mosque by the Imam. On sunday, the pope asked the fighting factions in the CAR to lay down their weapons.

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet speaks during a media conference Monday at NATO headquarters in Brussels. After the conflict that happened between Turkey and Russia, which is a violation of airspace by a Russian plane. However according to what the Prime Minister has said, Turkey will not apologize for downing Russian war plane. As he claims the country was just defending the airspace. Which is obviously is right, how they will be able to defend their country if they are gonna let go an airspace violation? The main question here should be about that Russian war plane, if it was actually onto something, or was it just a mistake. Also even that Turkish government is not going to apologize, they are trying to de-escalate the situation as they do not want any conflict in the future. Furthermore it was stated that this was not the first violation of airspace, neither the warning, The meeting was held with Nato allies. "Still, Turkey has responded with steps to try to de-escalate the situation, with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressing 'sadness' numerous times, but refusing to apologize."

COP21: Paris conference could be climate turning point, says Obama

Based on the article I read about the UN climate conference which is being held in Paris, world leaders got together in order to discuss the climate change. There were 147 leaders in this conference. Finally, the leaders who are from rich countries think they should take serious actions against the climate change. Economic growth and environmental protection used to be in conflict. But now some rich countries realised that environmental protection does not effect economic growth. I think it is good that finally some leaders started to realise that they have to do something about this. But in my opinion, I still think that most countries won’t succeed because other countries won’t do anything about it and it will balance out and there will not be effects. Yes, this conference is a turning point because it shows that leaders are starting to realise the danger but it won’t make a huge difference for solving the problem.

Obesity: ‘Sugary drinks should be taxed’

The British Parliament is planing to increase the price of sugary drinks by 20% in order to reduce obesity. They want to try to convince people to drink less sugary drinks that will not be taxed and cost less money. Recently, some soft drink companies started making smaller cans like Coca-Cola. They didn't start doing this to decrease obesity, they did it for profit. But people started to drink less because of the smaller sized cans. So reducing the size worked. But I don’t think increasing the price by only 20% would work because if someone wants to drink it, 20% won’t stop them. If they really want to change the price because of obesity, the drinks should be on the expensive side. They should increase the price by at least 50%. In my opinion, this would make a difference.

Simply the drone is able to fly for up to 15 miles and deliver a parcel within 30 minutes of the order being placed. It’s still only a prototype though, but the firm was already given permission to test the delivery drones. However; there are few concerns about the safety and security problems. Nevertheless, this innovative project has a great potential of both in the sake of time saving and preventing or reducing air pollution by not using any extra vehicles that harms and pollutes air. Mostly, the opinions of authorized people about this subject are positive. It is said that by 2020 there will be around 30,000 commercial drones and many more civilian devices in use in America.

This report attempts to analyse the reasons of Turkish-Kurdish conflict. Mr. Elçi was dead in Diyarbakır during a battle between the police and unidentified gunmen. Tahir Elçi is Kurdish and we know there is a big violence between Turks and Kurds. Mr. Elçi said: “PKK is not a terrorist organization.” After that the nationalist Turks and the government gets angry to this situation. The pro-Kurdish HDP Party called his death a "planned assassination". Then hundreds of people in Turkey started to protest against Mr. Elçi’s death. The police used water cannon and tear gas to disperse them. Turkey should be objective to their people. Since 10 percent of Turkey’s population is composed of Kurds. Turkey should govern everywhere same. If we compare Istanbul and Diyarbakır we can see a lot of difference. Turkey always made investments to the West. That increased the Turkish-Kurdish conflict.

After Turkey downing a Russia jet. Mr. Davutoglu said the incident was unfortunate but that Turkey had a right and duty to protect its airspace. Nato Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, appearing with Mr Davutoglu in Brussels, said the alliance fully supported the right of member nation Turkey to defend its airspace. If we look the rules of engagement of Turkey, if any country or anything breaches the airspace of Turkey it will be shot to ensure the security of the country. If there is a rule and Turkey did apply there is not any reason Turkey to apologise.

"Russia has accused Turkey of shooting down its warplane near the border with Syria in order to protect its oil trade with the Islamic State (IS) group," says the article exactly. To begin with, I have to state that I love my nation, and I would do anything to protect it, so I am not sorry it I sound too overprotective. Vladimir Putin first denied that their aircraft was not violating any kind of regulations, second he called this whole situation "a big mistake", a mistake that we warned Russians for at least five times; then when Turkey thankfully refused to apologize, Russia imposed sanctions on Turkey over the downing of the plane, including restrictions on imports of Turkish food and an end to visa-free travel. Please correct me if I am wrong but I seem to wonder how hard can it be to understand the problematic part of the equations, if you call this situation an equations, or even maybe multiple ones. And know here is Russia, stating that the whole aim of this rightful act was related somehow with the oil Turkey trades with IS? Plus, Mr. Putin states this at a very formal and an important conference that definitely has nothing at all with the situation. I will, with curiosity, keep on reading the news and see what else Mr. Putin has to say about this situation as it is just tragic... Please do read the article, I would love to discuss more.

The report explains why Turkey shot down the Russian jet, the response of Russia, and possible problems that can occur between and inside these two countries. The Prime Minister of Turkey, Ahmet Davutoglu, stated that because the warned Russian jets got into Turkey's airspace, they shot the jet down. He also added that, Turkey would be protecting the Turkmen "brothers" living in Syria. But of course, this situation will harm Turkey a lot, especially financially. Most of the natural gas that Turkey comes from Russia. Additionally, Russian tourists occupy the second largest place in the tourists that come to Turkey. Another important things is, there are major industries that work in both Turkey and Russia. So why does Turkey take these risks, by shooting a Russian jet down? Turkey has been very clear about their Syria politics: Turkey wants Assad out. The West claims that Russia is not attacking “moderate” groups in Syria but very dangerous groups such as Al-Nusra Front, which is the Syrian Al Qaida. Right know, in the city of grief, nearly 150 world leaders gathered for climate change summit in France. CNN's John D. Sutter spoke to Xiuhtezcatl Tonatiuh, a 15-year-old climate change activist who has filed suit against the Obama administration for failing to ditch fossil fuels.This young man, who is my peer has done something that raises so much awareness that I personally want to go and help him. My problem is not with Mr. Obama but with our world and how she has changed. This young man is a climate activist and he has been doing this since he was six years old. It is so lovely that he has found what he is passionate about and follows it throughout his whole life. The reason for him to sue Mr. Obama is because he calls out to the government, to the people who are supposed to represent us, represent our thoughts, represent our voices, how we feel... "They have failed to adequately protect the climate for our generation," says Tonatiuh. From his point of view it is possible to see how he thinks and I would be lying if I said that I disagreed with him. All we say is that we care but we do not take action. We vote others to represent us but no one takes action. This has to stop. We are pushing our limits and I am not sure how long these ropes are going to last.

More than 720,000 migrants have arrived in Europe on Greek shores so far this year, with most arriving from Turkey. As Turkish state media reports,Turkish authorities have rounded up 1,300 migrants allegedly bound for Greece. The European Leaders that do not want to see these migrants in their country that much, offered Turkey €3bn(£2.1bn) to keep them inside Turkey. Hours after Turkey and European leaders struck a deal to control the flow of migrants to Europe, the movement came. Police detained hundreds of migrants near the western town of Ayvacik, a main crossing point to Greece, according to the Anadolu news agency. The detainees were sent to a repatriation center.

Racial Hairy is a young woman who grew up in really conditions. In 2001 the Taliban ruled her village in Uruzgan, Afghanistan. She dressed up as a boy to go to school and went to school anyway. Because of the hard decisions she had to leave her country and went to Australia. "I have run away from terrorism. I am a victim of terrorism," she says. "That's why I am here." Today, many girls cannot go to school and continue because of the terrorism that is going on in their country. Racial is a really amazing role model for women. She never gave up and now, she is trying to help the others. She recently served as an ambassador for Unicef. Plus, she continued her education and finished the university. She is a real inspiration for lots of people. Even in our own country, we have many girls who can't continue their education and get married at the age of 15. Racial Hairy judged because of her religion and her choices as well. But she never gave up and stick her own beliefs. She did not let anybody to change her.
People need to accept everyone without trying to change them. Their religion or gender does not matter. We are who we are. Racial Hairy shows us how she stands up for her rights by telling her story. If she can do that, everybody can. In conclusion, never change yourself because of other people. You are who you are and every human being is very special. If you accept yourself, in the end everyone will, too.

Li-fi 100 times faster than Wi-Fi

Researchers from Edinburgh University found a new method to access internet even faster than the last generatıon of Wi-Fi which is 1.3 Gbps, it’s still enough for most users thought. We as consumers always want more so Li-Fi is 100 times faster than the first generation of Wi-Fi which is 11Mbps, not too bad. However, more is always better so when Li-Fi releases I’m sure that everybody wants to own Li-Fi compatible devices. But how this technology works?
Based on the article in order to use Li-Fi we need to have standard LED bulb, a photo detector which this will probably be the rear camera of our smartphones and internet access. Prof Hass predicted a future when billions of light bulbs could become wireless hotspots. No more searching for a perfect place for high quality Wi-Fi signal.

Both Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayip Erdoğan have stark similarities: both have cultivated a strongman image, adored by their supporters and hated by the opponents for eroding democracy. Russia and Turkey have been allies for a long time now and as a result both will respond to this crisis in the same way: with tough talk. Putin called this as “a stab in the back” and Erdogan said we won’t apologize.
On the other hand, both sides depend on each other. Russia is Turkeys second largest trading partner and main source for Turkey’s energy. Last year Turkey imports sixty per cent of its energy from Russia. On the Russian side Turkey is the biggest foreign destination for Russian tourists.
